Accounting is a universal language, yet the rules are slightly different across the regions, and there are many niches within accounting that one can specialize in. Because of this, there are many accounting certifications to choose from, and in this video, we go through the ones considered more recognized and global, thus arguably more prestigious.

The US CPA license is likely the most sought after among the list. This is because it covers many aspects, not only audit, but also financial accounting, taxation, business laws and ethics, and general business and finance concepts such as economics, corporate finance and strategic planning.

At the same time, it has the highest entry barrier: one must have at least a 4-year bachelor degree, minimum accounting and business courses, together with 1 to 2 years of relevant working experience verified by supervisors who are US CPAs.

CFA is another very popular certification but it is more for finance and investment professionals. Unlike CPA, the entry barrier is much lower, but the exam itself is no less difficult – in fact, one will likely spend more time studying for the CFA exam and the CPA exam. The working experience requirement is also stricter, requiring 4 years of relevant experience.

We also cover other qualification such as CMA and CIA in this video. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comment section and I will be happy to help.
