The 6th Los Angeles-Improved class attack submarine is named after the city of Scranton, Pa., located in the Lackawanna River Valley.
March 25, 2005 USS Scranton, commanded by Cmdr. Michael J. Quinn, departed homeport for a scheduled deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
April 7, SSN 756 moored outboard the USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) in La Maddalena, Italy, for a five-day Fleet Maintenance Availability (FMAV).
June 8, The Scranton recently pulled into Manama, Bahrain, for a two-week upkeep. Inport Jebel Ali, U.A.E. in mid-August for upkeep.
September 6, USS Cranton arrived in Naval Support Activity La Maddalena for a three-day upkeep.
September 27, USS Scranton returned to Naval Station Norfolk after a six-mont Arabian Gulf deployment, with the USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG). The submarine participated in a bilateral U.S. and Israel exercise Caya Green and exercise Inspired Siren with the Pakistani Navy.
March 9, 2006 SSN 756 successfully demonstrated homing and docking of an Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (UUV) system during at-sea testing in January. The two UUVs used in the testing are a part of the AN/BLQ-11 Long Term Mine Reconnaissance System (LMRS), which was designed to enable submarines to conduct clandestine undersea surveys to locate mines.
October 27, The Scranton is currently underway conducting Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX), with the USS Bataan (LHD 5) Expeditionary Strike Group, in preparation for the upcoming deployment.
January 6, 2007 USS Scranton, commanded by Cmdr. Wesley R. Guinn, departed Naval Station Norfolk for a scheduled deployment, with the Bataan ESG 2, in support of the ongoing rotation of forward-deployed forces. Transited Suez Canal on Jan. 30.
May 10, USS Scranton recently departed Manama, Bahrain, after a port call.
June 9, The Los Angeles-Improved class attack submarine pulled into Souda Bay, Crete, Greece, for a routine port visit.
July 3, USS Scranton returned to Norfolk after a six-month Middle East deployment. Port calls to La Maddalena, Italy; Toulon, France; Diego Garcia and Jebel Ali, U.A.E.
April 11, 2008 The Scranton returned to homeport after a routine underway period.
July 24, SSN 756 departed Naval Station Norfolk for a brief underway to complete Electronic Navigation Certification using the Voyage Management System (VMS).
February 20, 2009 USS Scranton departed Norfolk for a scheduled deployment, as part of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) Carrier Strike Group (CSG).
March 17, USS Scranton departed Naval Support Activity Souda Bay, Greece, after a routine port call.
July 17, The Scranton pulled into Souda Bay for another port visit after completing operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility.
August 20, USS Scranton returned to homeport after a six-month deployment.
October 1, Cmdr. Paul A. Whitescarver relieved Cmdr. Wesley R. Guinn as CO of the Scranton during a change-of-command ceremony onboard the sub at Naval Station Norfolk.
January 21, 2011 USS Scranton departed homeport for a scheduled deployment in the U.S. 6th Fleet AoR.
February 12, The Scranton is currently participating in a bilateral submarine exercise, with the French nuclear-powered submarine FS Saphir (S 602), in the Atlantic Ocean.
February 16, SSN 756 moored at HMNB Portsmouth, England, for a nine-day upkeep.
March 6, USS Scranton pulled into Augusta Bay, Italy, to receive supplies and personnel.
March 19, The Scranton launched Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (TLAMs), after 8 p.m. local time in the Mediterranean Sea, in support of Operation Odyssey Dawn.

August 17, USS Scranton returned to Naval Station Norfolk after a seven-month deployment. The sub traveled more than 42,000 nautical miles and visited several ports including Rota, Spain and Lisbon, Portugal.
January 20, 2012 Cmdr. Seth Burton relieved Cmdr. Paul A. Whitescarver as CO of SSN 756 during a change-of-command ceremony onboard the sub at Norfolk.
July 26, The Scranton departed Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, after a five-day port visit.

December 4, The Los Angeles-Improved class attack submarine arrived in Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Teritory, for a routine port call; Inport Naval Station Rota in late December.
January 13, 2014 USS Scranton returned to homeport after a six-month deployment in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet AoR. The sub traveled more than 40,000 nautical miles and also made port calls to Lisbon, Portugal; Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP), Bahrain; and Fujairah, U.A.E.
August 4, The Scranton arrived in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, for a two-year Engineered Overhaul (EOH).

May 26, Cmdr. Aaron C. Peterson relieved Cmdr. Ronald L. Stowe as CO of the Scranton during a pierside ceremony at Naval Base Point Loma.
